Sept 26, 2009

Well, this month has been busy and really fun. It's late now and I'm about to get to sleep on my brother's couch. Brian Mulder and I have traveled south to Jackson, MS to pick up the official tour van for the month of October! We figured we needed a little more room to haul equipment so I'm trading cars with my Mom for a month. She's a sculptor and usually uses the van to transport her pieces to different shows, so the van should be familiar with the line of work we're in- the transporting of carefully crafted musical works to lovely living rooms and various venues.

So now we're in Jackson to visit with my family and head over to Wired Cafe tomorrow night to hear our friends Abbye and Jeff Pates and Becca Varner share the stage for their singer/songwriter evening.

I'm too tired to write much more tonight, but I wanted to post a quick message to let you know that the tour preparation is well underway! The CDs should come in next week, the dates are lined up, the T-shirts are being printed, a tour kickoff video is set to be filmed early next week, rehearsals are really fun, I bought some new toothpaste, man, it's going to be a great month!

Brian and I will be starting the tour out in Memphis, TN and then heading East.  Keep checking www.matthewclark.net for blogs, video updates, and who knows what else. We've got a few ideas brewing for the road that will be fun. We'll do our best to keep you up to date.

Last night I stayed up late talking at home with my Mom. We talked about how we all want to live in a story... for our lives to have real location, context, meaning. We all want to look behind us and see that we have come from somewhere... to look ahead of us and see that we are headed somewhere. When that happens, when we see that we have a real heritage and an inheritance, then we can understand the context for our lives, we can see how we fit into the Eternal Story of the God Who Lives.

The songs on the new album have a lot to do with remembering where we have come from and where we are going. This Tour is a way for me to join in the Big Story of the ongoing life and work of Jesus (So is buying milk for your roommates or closing the laptop when your friends are talking to you!).  I'm very excited to get on the road, to visit with all the folks we'll meet, to hear and share stories...to remember and to be remembered to the Great Story.

See you on the road!   -Matthew
